  • WHY DO ART AND ADHD GO TOGETHER?

When it comes time to treat the challenges presented by ADHD, many people turn to the work of Cognitive Behavioral Therapists to help with executive functioning and organizational skills. But what about the other needs of ADHD? Oftentimes, one of the hardest barriers for those with ADHD is low self-esteem due to mounting criticism and challenging life experiences in a world that is not set up for them to succeed. In addition to art's ability to unlock new communication styles and skills, it fosters the individual's creative thinking.

Encouraging your or your child's creative side increases positive experiences and highlights the challenges of having ADHD as strengths rather than weaknesses. Many studies have shown that people with ADHD who engage in art therapy have reported an increase in self-regulation skills, improved mood and focus, encouraged new ways of thinking, expanded social skills, boosted self-esteem, and became an integral part of forming healthy self-expression.
